A major device OEM asked Merge OEM to help integrate information from their device into radiology information systems (RIS). The OEM knew Merge’s expertise in DICOM and Merge’s own DICOM toolkit would allow for a well thought out and fast and compliant integration for their product.
The primary objective of the project was to deliver a component to assist in retrieving patient information from a scanner (CT, MR) and match it to the data stream produced by their device. Merge OEM implemented DICOM interfaces to retrieve study data from the scanner and matched it with the devices data stream. This allowed users of the OEMs technology to search and view the device data along with the corresponding patient information. Without the DICOM integration the only possibility for connecting the device data to patient information would have been via manual cross referencing of the date and time of the scan with the date and time information from the device.
Automatically associating the DICOM patient record with the device data created additional integration possibilities. The information from the device could be converted into a graphical format and stored as a DICOM secondary capture object along with image data from the scanner. This made information previously available only as a notation on the patient chart available to clinicians at the time of study review.
Merge OEM used its DICOM toolkit to provide the connectivity and provided a single software solution that allowed easy integration with the OEM’s existing software.
